## What it is
The state licensing office's March 2024 quarterly webinar: three new PINs, how local R&R agencies help families and providers, and two free behavioral health apps.

## 3 things to know
- Check mychildcareplan.org to see if your program is listed for R&R referrals. If not, or if it's outdated, contact your R&R. [✓ official source: https://cdss.ca.gov/Portals/9/CCLD/CCP%20Documents/2024-Q1-CCP-Webinar.pdf#page=18]
- R&R referrals are randomized and R&Rs don't recommend programs, so keep your hours, services and vacancies current. [presenter said at 00:15:55, not independently confirmed]
- A free state virtual behavioral health service, BrightLife Kids, supports parents and caregivers of children 0-12. No referral is needed. ## Strengthening Families protective factors

## California's child care resource and referral (R&R) system
- The California Child Care Resource and Referral Network is the oldest, most well-established R&R system in the United States, with at least one state-funded R&R serving every county. [✓ official source: https://cdss.ca.gov/Portals/9/CCLD/CCP%20Documents/2024-Q1-CCP-Webinar.pdf#page=13]
- R&Rs help families find child care and work with providers through training, technical assistance and support. [✓ official source: https://cdss.ca.gov/Portals/9/CCLD/CCP%20Documents/2024-Q1-CCP-Webinar.pdf#page=14]
- Families give details such as location, hours, reason for care, languages, child ages, type of care and schedule. Filters include transportation, meals or Child and Adult Care Food Program participation, learning environment, and whether the program accepts subsidies. [✓ official source: https://cdss.ca.gov/Portals/9/CCLD/CCP%20Documents/2024-Q1-CCP-Webinar.pdf#page=15]
- The presenter said R&Rs do not share provider addresses in referrals, and referrals are emailed to families. Updated program information is important to the referral process. [presenter said at 00:14:41, not independently confirmed]
- Referrals are randomized with each referral, and R&Rs do not make recommendations. The presenter asked programs to keep vacancies, hours and services up to date. [presenter said at 00:15:55, not independently confirmed]
- R&Rs tell parents about low-cost programs such as Head Start, State Preschool and child care subsidies. The presenter said parents have the right to information about substantiated or inconclusive complaints about a licensed program, and R&Rs give them Community Care Licensing contact information. [presenter said at 00:16:17, not independently confirmed]
- Check mychildcareplan.org to see if your program is listed in the referral system; contact your local R&R to be added or to update your information. Even if you do not sign up for referrals, the presenter asked you to share your information with your R&R. [presenter said at 00:22:01, not independently confirmed]
- For providers, R&Rs offer a connection to the Family Child Care Food Program or a sponsor, and health and safety reimbursements for CPR/First Aid and preventive health practices. [✓ official source: https://cdss.ca.gov/Portals/9/CCLD/CCP%20Documents/2024-Q1-CCP-Webinar.pdf#page=18]
- R&Rs help people start child care: licensing application, business plan and marketing guidance, one-on-one and group support, free trainings, incentives when funding allows, and support for family, friend and neighbor caregivers. [✓ official source: https://cdss.ca.gov/Portals/9/CCLD/CCP%20Documents/2024-Q1-CCP-Webinar.pdf#page=19]
- Find your local R&R at rrnetwork.org by ZIP code, or through the Local R&R Directory at the bottom of mccp.org. R&Rs have provided child care information and support for more than 40 years.
